As I was growing up I assumed I'd be a hero but without a cape, just a working class ethic, a sterling sense of justice and wiht common sense and Kung Fu I would save the day, Hooray, for me they'd roar Triumphant music blaring as I found the door I'd vanish just in time to leave them wanting more But that's not how it looks right now, right now No crash, not a flash of light Not some weeping strings Or a zoom-in close-up No cheers Or a long soliloquy I won't ride into the sunset I won't ride into the sunset I'll slip into the sea The movie of my life hit a snag with the funding and a nose too big, There's a ready willing actor, but no sign of a public, A lack of sturdy cheekbones and a publicist Okay, I'm not a star But I can still jump trashcans in a rental car Slow motion in my mind as I head toward the bar And someday I'll be stepping out, step out No crash, not a flash of light Not some weeping strings Or a zoom-in close-up No cheers Or a long soliloquy I won't ride into the sunset I won't ride into the sunset I'll slip into the sea I'll be gone But the world will turn again It's the saddest thing I've heard all day I'll be gone And my friends will have a beer And remember me for an hour or two then go on their merry way Yeah… No crash, not a flash of light Not some weeping strings Or a zoom-in close-up No cheers Or a long soliloquy I won't ride into the sunset I won't ride into the sunset I'll slip into the sea
